What is epoxy flooring?

Not to be confused with epoxy floor paint, epoxy flooring is a flooring coating solution that was originally developed in the adhesives market before practical, daily use, applications were discovered for homes and businesses.

Epoxy is typically a multi-part liquid polymer that is mixed, then poured over the surface to be coated. Once cured, the material offers a layer of protection and compressive strength that is more than 3 times that of concrete typically used for residential applications.

The practical uses for epoxy flooring are vast:

A properly executed epoxy floor coating chemically adheres to the underlying concrete, and creates an added barrier of protection.

The benefits this protective shield adds include:

  • impact protection.
  • chemical resistance.
  • an extra moisture barrier.
  • temperature resistance.
  • compressive strength beyond what concrete offers.
  • dust reduction.
  • ...the list goes on.

In The Home:

Epoxy can be used for a multitude of applications in virtually every room of your house. We have worked on projects ranging from a traditional flake garage floor, to custom mosaics for the wall of a shower.

Its practicality, and customization make it an exciting solution to traditional options that exist in the market to cover floors and walls.

The nearly limitless color, texture, pattern, and style options that epoxy flooring offers ensures you end up with a truly unique surface coating solution that will be the envy of your friends and neighbors.

Epoxy can also help to repair and mitigate future damage to any concrete surfaces in your home.

At The Workplace:

Epoxy offers a practical solution that will last years, is easy to maintain, and will impress your clients.

Its durability is unmatched, and the material is the perfect solution for highly trafficked areas.  The color customization options allow us to match your branding, or even fulfill OSHA required floor marking requirements where applicable.

Our passion for epoxy shines through all of our projects. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing if epoxy is the right solution for your home or business.

Frequently Asked:

Is epoxy flooring expensive?

Initial installation costs of epoxy flooring is in line with other flooring options that exist on the market...

BUT...

Once the other advantages epoxy offers are considered, there are few materials on the market that can compete with epoxy floors.

Can epoxy flooring be removed?

Yes, the process to remove epoxy does require specialized equipment, but it can be removed (although we're not sure you will ever want to). We do recommend getting a professional involved in the process so you don't damage your underlying floor.

If you are simply worried about committing to a surface for the length of time epoxy lasts, we have some good news:
Epoxy's appearance can be easily changed with a fresh coat of epoxy after some minor prep work.

Is epoxy flooring slippery?

Epoxy is not any more slick than other high gloss floor finishes, but epoxy does offer some solutions to this, that cannot be found with other materials.

There are quite a few additives in the epoxy market that will turn your epoxy floor into a non-slip surface. Beyond the safety these materials add, they give you another aspect of customization.

Can epoxy flooring be used outside?

Epoxy's durability lends itself very well to outdoor applications.

There are a few things to keep in mind, that we recommend for both safety and appearance of the coating.

First, adding a non-slip material to the surface is highly recommended in case of rain, or if your installation is a poolside patio.

There are also a few topcoat options for your epoxy floors. Outdoors we highly recommend a polyaspartic top coat, to protect your surface from UV damage, and prevent yellowing.
